Whoever “A” is, they are literally playing with fire. First the beak of Koraki, now a load of dead mortals. I will find out who it is, and I will make them suffer.
I had only used an eighth of my shadows, a part of me now would always be here, watching over her. At least I could take comfort in that.
“I have done you wrong, and for that, you sought to repay a debt. I deserve your hatred, but I would beg you for your forgiveness.”
If I’m going to go home and mix it up with the fam, for good or for ill, I need a recharge. I need to be at my best. I need a good meal, and I always liked a little eggplant.
I knew him. He raised me. I knew where to hit him, what hurt the most, and what it would take to wound him.
I could feel a smile and…and other sensations as she entered my mind, blowing away the dead that resided there. The silver thread exploded in my mind. Then I flew.
Maybe I couldn’t get through that door, but I knew who could. Leaning down, I kissed his cheek, “We’re bringing you home, Z.”
Phosphorus slapped Zeus on the shoulder, then made his way down the hall, leaving Zeus standing alone. “Open your mind and phone home, big boy. I’m sure someone’s around.”
“Much, thank you,” I replied. I walked over and knelt by her right leg. “Spread your feet.” Muttering under her breath, she parted her legs slightly. “A little more.”
Distracted, I looked down at them. “Aww, aren’t they cute? You must be a baby witch if all you can summon are baby demons.”
Maybe it’s the realization that the most efficient method for improving anything begins with a thoughtful response, rather than a panicked reaction.
That really was the question, though. Who was I? Was I the monster everyone feared or was I something else? Someone else. I wasn’t sure.
