I looked at the ceiling above the bar and I saw them: nightgoyles. “WHAT the Hades are they doing here?”
“Oh, my sweet boy. You are going to do wondrous things. You need a strong name to help you through your life.”
Moxie hesitated, not wanting to greet such evil, but she knew Lydia would do exactly what she said. Moxie saw her intentions as clear as day.
Moxie straddled his waist and wiped the blood from her knife onto his cheek. She bared her teeth at him and growled. “No means no.”
She still thought this was a game, like I was her plaything to be toyed with. She clearly didn’t know what I was capable of.
“We’re going through the opening and since you like to discover new things, you can go first, brother.”
My eyes changed to a fiery blaze and I said, “ You will pay what you owe, and you will leave my uncle’s bar right NOW!”
“Spiders. A lot of spiders. Like a whole nest of really big, gigantic, flesh-eating spiders.”
Moxie stumbled over an apple and reached out to a pillar to steady herself. When she pulled her hand away, she gasped. Her hand was covered in blood.
I walked around town yesterday afternoon to get a feel for the area and smiled at all the children dressed up in costumes, already anticipating the upcoming Halloween festival.
